@es Beta 7 Released!

@ruantec has just released beta 7 of his popular @ES software with a big update below, here is what he said:

QUOTE (@ruantec)
Hi everyone!

Since am about to move to a new place in one week am not sure how long i´ll stay without internet connection nor how much time i´ll have to work on @ES plus since am planning to re-write the hole thing after Beta7 i thought not to waste more time in the actual code and release the latest build.

Beta 7 Changes:

*Slider bug is definitelly fixed(i thought it was fixed in the last Beta but then i found out it was buggy).
*search functionality(Press CTRL+S to open the layer, type the text to search and if is the correct one just press ESC to close otherwise press ENTER to jump to the next match).
*Search-on-key(Press a key on your keyboard to jump to the next cover starting with the key pressed).
*fixed lots of bugs that caused @ES to crash.
*Console selection menu re-designed(Coverflow).
*Remotejoy support(configure Remotejoy when asked or in the settings file and click the last icon of the main menu).
Note: Remotejoy menu is called by pressing ESC.. in order to close the Remotejoy layer just press ALT + ESC

*Folder scanning function re-written! select single/multiple folder(s) and drop them to the albums layer, each folder will turn into an album if it contains at least a valid file.

*ePSXe is set as Standard emulator in the PSX section
*Daemon-Tools removed(ePSXe doesn´t need daemon-tools anymore but is still required for SSF)
*Naomi support.
*Dolphin Betas support.
*Wii section added and supported.
*Listview mode complete but not implemented yet(am still working on it and it needs some changes in order to be added correctly.. eventhough i´ve added a preview under the "Settings" icon so press this icon after you have some albums added and press ESC to exit.)
*New standard skin "Iphone - Reloaded" made by me

Known issues:
*ePSXe(still a pain for me ) doesn´t get back to normal after you switch to fullscreen.
*sometimes(rarely) some covers aren´t displayed(wait few secs after you load albums/roms to avoid that bug)

Todo:
*Listview mode implementation.
*Gamepad implementation for use with emulators that use the keyboard only.
*Finger-Tracking(control @ES/games with your hands/fingers using a sensor or just a simple webcam).
*Better Video menu/display.
*Better Audio List/management.
*@ES screen/skin Sizes.

Regarding News...

I realize thing have been slow with the news, this is due to the recent switch to IPB. I've been busy installing modifications, tweaking settings and permissions and am doing what I can a little at a time.

Once the basic things including modifications are taken care of I'll start to speed things up with news.

Site Update

I am working hard to improve the website, restore the previous configuration including modifications that were set prior to the board software change.

I have just configured IPB to integrate with Mkportal using the forum's theme, which looks much better.

I have also installed several modifications, some which are listed below (I'll update the list later on)

1. IPB Pro Arcade - A game section for IPB

2. Hover over thread title preview - Allows a small preview bit of the thread to be viewed when hovering over the title.

3. Private Message Quick Reply - You can quickly reply to a private message you are viewing.

4. Online Today - A list of users that have been online/logged in for the day.

5 RPG Stats modification - Gives a user an RPG level based on posts, activity and how long they've been registered.

Of course this is just a small list for now, which I will be updating later. I'm still in the process of installing modifications so it will take a bit before the forum is finally back to it's previous state or better in terms of modifications.

Work Has Begun....

I will be spending the next few days to a week installing some much needed modifications for the forum, and performing maintenance on the forum and tweaking settings to not only restore the forum to it's original functionality we had prior to the conversion to IPB.

Due to this I won't be able to compile any Dolphin revisions until I complete what needs to be done. After I finish everything I will make another post to update everyone on the status and list what has been added.

Mass Password Resets

I have just switched from Mybb to IPB for the websites board software. Since there isn't an official converter from Mybb 1.4 to IPB 2.3.6, I had to first convert to SMF, and then convert from SMF to IPB using the free converter from IPB.

Due to this the password login salt/key for every user doesn't match the original, checksums must of got messed up during the conversion. You can request a new password via the forgot password function which will send a new password to your email address you used when you signed up. You then should be able to login without a problem.

You must reset your password before you can successfully login.

We also lost poll votes during the conversion, so when you get a chance please take the time to re-cast your votes...

I am working my hardest to restore the settings and configuration that were in play when Mybb was installed and will keep everyone updated.

You will also need to re-upload your avatars since I wasn't able to convert them over either.

I apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused. smile.gif

Regarding a board software change...

I just purchased an IPB license and will likely be switching the board software from Mybb to IPB.

As much as I love Mybb and what it has to offer, it lacks community rich features, decent themes and plugins which the commercial board software's offer.

I also feel that in case something goes wrong I can receive a faster response with a solution. Also IPB has modifications I need which Mybb lacks, I've been unable to get anyone interested in coding the specific plugins I am interested in.

Just because there is going to be a change in board software, doesn't mean the quality of the forum will decrease. I am fairly experienced and should be able to get everything up without any problem.

Once I receive a confirmation that the license is paid in full, and receive access to the downloads, I will be closing the forum for a maximum of 2 - 3 hours to switch everything over.

The only bad thing about switching board software is that I will need to remove my link to my website from the official Mybb forums.

As usual if you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to voice them in this thread/announcement.

QUOTE
CodeWeavers Inc is offering “free software for every American” tomorrow, October 28, the company announced today. The move is due to the catastrophic cratering of the global economy, falling gas prices and last, but certainly not least, President George W. Bush.

According to an official CodeWeavers report, Bush's recent executive activities have indirectly prompted the software developers to offer their software for free for one whole day. And that day is tomorrow. The company, as some of you may know, is responsible for a great piece of software called CrossOver, which enables you to run Windows apps on your Mac, without the need of a virtual environment like Parallels.

According to the same report, in July, CodeWeavers launched the Great American Lame Duck Presidential Challenge, in an attempt to get President Bush to make the most of his remaining days in office. The software developers said they'd be so thrilled if Bush would accomplish a major economic or political goal by January 20, 2009, that they'd offer all their software for free. Bush was supposed to make specific positive accomplishments in areas such as the economy, home values, the stock market, the war on terror and other key issues, but one goal in particular called for the President to help bring average gasoline prices in the Twin Cities to $2.79 a gallon. Monday, Oct 14, saw it happen, says the report.

"That morning, I was filling my tank at Big Steve's Gas Palace in St. Paul," said Jeremy White, president and CEO of CodeWeavers. "I had just finished my morning corn dog and 64-ounce Dr. Pepper when I looked at the pump and noticed gas was at $2.79. I screamed ‘Woohoo,’ then I yelled ‘Oh, [expletive]!’ as I realized every American can now have my software for free. Kind of upsets my fourth quarter revenue projections..."

"I launched the campaign to inspire President Bush to make the most of his final days in office. Who knew that our Challenge would have this kind of impact on the country?" White added, admitting this was not how he foresaw the Challenge unfolding. "On the other hand, who knew that the economy would implode, causing oil demand to drop into the abyss and gas prices to plummet as well. Clearly, investigating Bear Stearns, AIG and those guys is misplaced – CodeWeavers is responsible for this mess. So it's free software for all!"

On Tuesday, October 28, 2008, anyone visiting the CodeWeavers' Web site will be given a deal code that will entitle them to one free copy of CrossOver. Each copy comes complete with support.

White said that his company would provide free software in the future, if other Great American Lame Duck Presidential Challenge goals are met. Those goals include:

- Return the stock market to its 2008 high;
- Reduce the average price of a gallon of milk to $3.50;
- Create at least one net job in the U.S. this calendar year;
- Return the median home price to its January 1, 2008 level;
- Bring Osama Bin-Laden to justice.

"I realize that by giving away all my software, I've caused horrific damage to my company's bottom line," White said. "In fact, our vice president of sales wretched Starbucks all over his shirt when he learned the news. But, I figure, the way the economy is going, in a few months everyone might be out on the streets, wearing potato sacks and standing in line for squirrel soup, so why not?" White concluded by saying.
